Party Boutiques Guide
The difference between a balloon display that looks professionally styled and one that deflates, drifts, or sags by mid-afternoon is almost always the accessories. Weights, ribbon, clips, pumps, and sealants are the behind-the-scenes infrastructure that holds an arrangement together. Knowing which accessory does what — and when to use it — is what separates a well-executed balloon display from an expensive-looking mess.
Hi-Float is worth understanding specifically if you're working with helium-filled latex balloons. It's a gel sealant applied to the inside of each balloon before inflation that coats the latex pores and dramatically slows helium escape — extending float life from the standard 8–12 hours to 25+ hours. If you're inflating latex the evening before an event, Hi-Float is non-negotiable. For air-filled garlands and arches, double-stuffing balloons (placing one slightly under-inflated balloon inside another before inflating together) creates a denser colour and more durable outer shell.
We stock a complete range of balloon accessories at Party Boutiques in Thornhill: hand and electric pumps, balloon decorating strips (the comb-like strips used to build even arches), fishing line for ceiling-suspended garlands, weighted cups in metallic finishes, curling ribbon, and balloon seals. If you're building a large installation, our team can advise on the specific accessories you need for your setup.
Apply Hi-Float to the inside of each latex balloon before inflation. It extends helium float life from 8–12 hours to 25+ hours — essential for any event with a pre-inflation window.
Balloon decorating strips hold individual balloons in place while you build an arch, creating even spacing and consistent size groupings without tape or knots.
For events with 50+ balloons, an electric pump pays for itself in time savings. Hand pumps are fine for under 30 balloons and are more portable for on-site inflation.
A 35g weighted cup holds 3–5 standard latex balloons reliably. For mixed latex and foil bouquets, increase to 60–80g to account for the larger foil surface catching airflow.
